I've used Haisstronica products in the past with good results including their heat-shrink solder connectors and crimp connectors, as well as their heat-shrink tubing and, as I needed more connectors, thought I would give this 680pc set a try. I like that the set comes organized in a functional and reusable storage case. The case plastic is hard and I have found that this type do not last as long as the polyethylene cases I tend to use for fasteners but certainly is a step or two better than the cheap, clear plastic cases products like this normally come in. The connectors and tubing are organized into little individual removable boxes which makes it handy if you are only using one or two different items. I like the heat-shrink solder connectors and prefer these over the crimp style yet I use both. I have had issues with some brands as their solder has failed to melt but I have had mostly good performance from Haisstronica. I also appreciate that they provide 3X shrink tubing as opposed to 1x as it makes initial placement of the tubing easier, allows a bit more flexibility in what fits into it, and appears to deal better. These also have an inner binding adhesive that some heat- shrink tubing does not. Overall, I like the product - including the case- very much but I do feel it is a bit pricy. I would have expected a price point more like $29-$35. I haven't used
This review is for the "haisstronica 680PCS Heat Shrink Solder Seal Connectors Set with Tubing,Waterproof Electrical Connectors and 3:1 Shrinking Tube for Marine,Automotive,Wiring Projects." I've been in situations on a boat where I didn't have a soldering gun and needed to splice wires. This kit fits that scenario without fault. All the solder tubing connector sizes makes this a great assortment kit in of itself. The shrink tubing also has sealing glue to make for a water-tight seal at a 3:1 shrink ratio. Lots of different sizes to use on a variety of wire sizes. I'm generally not a big fan of paying for a hard case when all I need is what's inside. However, the carrying case is handy and I can replace whatever I use up. The carrying case has other uses too, so the entire assortment kit imo is worthy of purchase in spite of the slightly elevated asking price at the time of this review.
Heat shrink butt connectors are a handy way to join wires where a connector is not needed. This kind of operation occurs often when connecting a pigtail connector for a device into a wiring harness. Traditional, this is done use crimp connectors. These can provide a solid physical connection, but are dependent upon the quality of the crimp and do not always provide envronmental protection for the connection. Heat shrink solder connectors serve a similar function but have certain advantages including being a single operation and they seal the connection from moisture which can corrode the connection. These connections also have some drawbacks. Among these are the need to the need to insure that both wires do not move while making -- and cooling -- the connection. A good quality heat gun is needed to insure that the solder reaches it's melting point But provided that this qualification is met, these connectors do provide a good electrical and physical connection that is protected from the environment. Although I ordered this kit for the connectors, it does also come with a copious supply of heat shrink tubing in red and black. From my perspective, this really isn't needed as it does not provide a significant vantage over the solder connectors themselves and it seems to me that the heat shrink was added in order to pad the parts count and to fill the rest of the bin in the box with something semi-relevant. But that said, if you have need of heat shrink tubing, you may find that the addition of the heat shrink tubing to be an added bonus. The heat shrink tubing does shrink as expected if you do have the need for it, this tubing will serve well. Personally, I would have preferring a smaller case with just the solder connectors.
The solder splices in this kit are of an interesting design: they're made of clear adhesive-wall heat shrink tubing with a doughnut of low-temperature (bismuth-containing) solder in the center. You have to strip your wires back maybe 3mm, insert both wires so that the stripped ends overlap or intermingle in the center (inside the solder doughnut). Then heat the assembly with a heat gun (or even a cigarette lighter, carefully). I found that if I shrank the ends first the heat shrink would hold the wires in place better. The included adhesive-wall heat shrink tubing provides extra protection for the splices or for other uses (like insulating spade female connectors). I found that the kit helped me do pinball and arcade game repairs quickly.
This 680 piece heat shrink and solder seal connector set has a very well organized case, very good instructions, and extra solder seal connectors (see image). All the pieces are kept in place with little trays that fit in place in the carrying case (see image). The clear plastic top is perfect to see what pieces need restocking. I counted all the solder seal connectors and there were extra of each size, which is a bonus in my book. The most solder seal connectors are the small white, 24-26 AWG, which I don’t use very often. I think I would have preferred more blue, 14-16 AWG, or even the red, 18-22 AWG. I tested a solder seal connector on a solid strand copper wire and had mixed results (see video). I used my heat gun on low (without a deflector) and moved the heat gun back and forth. The heat shrink worked perfectly, but the solder ring and seals did not melt. I turned up the heat on the gun and tried again. This time the red seals and solder melted (see images). I believe a heat deflector would have worked better with low heat. Once the solder seal cooled, I tried pulling it apart. It was very strong. I also verified continuity; a good electrical connection (see image). Overall, I love this 680 piece Heat Shrink & Solder Seal connector set. I have many projects that will benefit from this kit.
I needed some waterproof some wire joints with butt splice connectors and got this Haisstronica 680 piece kit. This kit is well packed with butt heat shrink solder connectors and heat shrink tubing to connect any wire from 10-26 awg. The connectors came in a high quality case that has 10 removable cubbies. The case was strong and the curved handle made it very easy to carry without any discomfort. These connectors are very easy to use. Simply strip about 1/3 inch from the end of both wires to be connected. Slip connector over one wire. Twist wires together to form one piece. Slide connector over twisted bare wire. Use a quality heat gun to melt the solder portion and shrink the tubing by evenly applying heat all the way around. Let the connector cool down before applying any pressure. While my heat gun was not strong enough to fully melt the solder, the resulting connection was so strong that I could not pull it apart. The heat shrink tubes have a 3:1 ratio. This is a great set for anyone needing to waterproof, insulate, dust proof and seal electrical connections in different settings including marine.

While haisstronica also has crimp butt connectors, these solder ones are so great and easy to ensure there is a great connection between your wires. When you crimp and then heat shrink it does the job, but these solder ones visually show you as the heat shrink handles the wire insulation, the built-in solder in the middle ensure a seal and you can visually see it fuse along with the actual wire. You already have the heat applied so you no longer have the additional step of having to crimp. The heat shrink tubes in this set provide coverage for end terminals, making sure to both prevent exposing wire/connector where you don't want it to and providing and additional firm seal. Marine grade waterproof allows for more applications and lastly, it comes with a case to help organize all of these. Just like the connectors, the tubing provides a variety of wire combination for all your hobby and DIY needs. Once you use it all, you have an opportunity to refill or re-purpose it for other types of components.
