1. Check the actual 520PCS distribution
Red covers AWG 22–16, blue AWG 16–14, and yellow AWG 12–10 in this kit’s chart. Match the printed terminal range, conductor and crimp die—not color alone. The ring measurement is the mounting-hole size, not the wire gauge.

2. Choose the terminal shape before the quantity

Important: heat shrink seals the wire-entry area when correctly installed. It does not automatically seal an exposed ring, fork or separable spade interface. Protect the complete connection as required by its environment.
3. Crimp first: watch the barrel and the die
Use this checklist alongside the demonstration. Is the conductor fully inserted? Is the die intended for that heat-shrink terminal? Does the tool complete its cycle without cutting the sleeve? A closed ratchet alone is not proof of a correct crimp.
- De-energize and verify the circuit is safe to work on.
- Strip to the terminal manufacturer’s specified length without nicking strands.
- Place the metal barrel in the matching insulated-terminal die and insert the conductor fully.
- Complete the crimp cycle, then inspect the connection before applying heat.

4. Heat-shrink, cool and inspect
Follow the terminal’s heating instructions, keep heat moving and inspect around the full sleeve. Look for even recovery onto the insulation and adhesive sealing at the wire entry, with no split, burned or loose tubing. Let the joint cool before handling or testing it. Heat cannot repair a loose metal crimp.

Use a dry, ventilated work area free of fuel vapors and other flammable atmospheres. Keep heat away from nearby sensitive parts and do not substitute an open flame.
5. Separate a visual check from a measured test

6. Match the kit to your projects
Automotive / trailer accessories
Useful to compare when your repairs span inline splices, studs and removable tabs. Check wire gauge, load, temperature, mating dimensions and strain relief. This AWG 22–10 assortment is not a substitute for large battery-cable lugs.
Boat wiring
Confirm vessel requirements and the exact connector’s environmental limits. Protect exposed contacts and route away from standing water. A heat-shrink sleeve alone does not establish bilge-immersion or marine-standard compliance.
Home workshop / low-voltage projects
Compare the kit for compatible hobby, equipment and accessory wiring. Do not assume it is approved for household mains or in-wall wiring; those applications require the specified listed connection method.
Verdict: buy the mix you will actually use
The 520PCS kit makes the most sense as a multi-type inventory: several ring sizes, forks, separable spades and inline splices in one organizer. It is less efficient if nearly every job consumes one shape and one gauge.
Count connections, not just pieces: the 60 male and 60 female spades can make up to 60 matched pairs across the included sizes—not 120 complete two-piece connections. The kit contains 100 butt connectors, not 520 inline splices.
